Week #6 – Screen Capture

We’re on the downward slope now as we enter week 6: Screen Capture week. This week’s challenges are dedicated to all those who have ever said, “What is this Jing thing on the lab computers, and why is it constantly annoying me?!”

Annoying it may be – that is, until you learn what it does – then you will think it nothing short of brilliant.

A quick introduction. Screen capture allows you to:

  • Take pictures of any part of your screen, save them to your computer, embed them, or link to them online.
  • Annotate over pictures you have taken to explain how to do something.
  • Capture video of you explaining something on your computer.
  • Share these wonderful pieces of wisdom you have created.

But don’t take our word for it – ask the following converts and devotees:

  • Luke
  • Haidee
  • Craig
  • Jackson

Screen capture is a great way for kids to share their knowledge and understanding as well. The grade 2-4 students have all had a go at some point. Hey, if they can do it, you can too!

This unit / challenge task has become one of my favorites. Love JING!
    Thank you Katie and K-L

  2.   Louise Says:

Love Jing and now have it on my home computer and the family uses it too.

    Getting Jingy with it!
I really liked this and have used it lots. Probably the thing that I have used consistently and in a practical way with things I have needed to do since learning about it. Feel confident using this one.

  4.   hab Says:

Probably my favourite tool to use. So quick and easy.

  5.   Luke Says:

Not that I am using this as a miniblog or anything, but by this point I noticed that the fruit was actually red apples, of which I am not greatly a fan, and so my guttedness of being excluded from truly fruity Fridays ebbed somewhat (I had also noted that Khalimah kept the excess fruit behind her desk so I could always pick up a Granny Smith or two on my way down to the staff room come 10am or so).

Anyway, I am therefore I Jing. KLB knows I am big on Jinging.

screen capture is really handy when you want to pass on some information – it is fun to add comments to photos. I like that I know about – just not sure I would use it that often!

  7.   Mandy Says:

I like that, its fun, except I want to change things I capture and you can’t!

  8.   Denise Richards Says:

As Keri-Lee knows I had a lot of fun with this one – so easy like a picnic! Just make sure the picture doesn’t fall into the wrong hands please.

  9.   cth Says:

I love to “JING”. Very handy tool.
    Do worry about copyright though!

  10.   Bex Says:

    Very handy tool to have!

  11.   mary Says:

I think this is a great tool and I need to use it much more in TA training etc.

  12.   alyssa Says:

Don’t make much use of Jing since Mac has a screencapture shortcut built in (Apple/shift/4) that I use all the time. Not as honest as Cinders, I guess, because I’ve never thought about copyright.

  13.   Hamish Says:

    better than shift apple 4
